If your toilet is in need of replacement, this article will show you how to replace a toilet. Start by removing the old toilet bowl from the floor. Then, unscrew the flange that attaches the tank to the bowl. Then, install the new bolts and seat. Make sure to install the toilet seat securely before tightening the bolts. The bolts will prevent leaks, so be careful to follow all instructions carefully.

Remove the toilet bowl from the floor

Before you start replacing the subfloor beneath your toilet, you must remove the bowl from the floor. You may need to unscrew the mounting nuts holding the toilet to the floor. Old or rusty mounting nuts can be difficult to unscrew. Before you start replacing the subfloor, make sure you empty the tank first. If you find the water is still seeping through the toilet’s sides, it is time to replace the toilet.

To remove the toilet’s floor bolts, you can use an adjustable wrench. Before unscrewing the bolts, take care to remove trim caps if applicable. If these are hard to unscrew, you may have to use a hacksaw to cut them loose. Next, remove the wax ring that sticks the base of the toilet to the floor. You can use a putty knife or scraper to remove the wax residue. Once you have removed the wax ring, clean the flange with a disinfectant cleaning solution or bleach and water.

Once you have removed the wax ring, you can lower the toilet bowl and affix the new one. Make sure the rim of the new bowl is parallel to the floor. Once it hits the wax ring, it will experience resistance and must be lowered slowly. Once the bowl is on the floor, you can now turn the bowl upside down and affix the wax ring. If you don’t have a putty knife, you can use a wooden spoon to hold the wax ring in place.

Before you begin the process of removing the toilet bowl from the floor, make sure you wear safety goggles, gloves, and rubber boots to protect yourself from injury. Also, you should be sure to wash the floor thoroughly with water to prevent any dust from settling on the floor. Be careful not to strain the bolts, as stressing them may crack the porcelain. Finally, remember to use a large garbage bag to protect your back from getting damaged when lifting the toilet.

Remove the toilet tank from the bowl

Before you start removing the toilet tank from the bowl, you need to make sure that the tank is secure to the bowl. There may be some nuts holding it in place that need to be loosened with a screwdriver. Once loose, you can pull the tank away. Carefully break any caulk that may be attached to the tank. If this does not work, you can use a utility knife to cut the caulk.

Disconnect the water supply line. Most toilets have a shut-off valve located behind the tank. Next, connect the water meter to the shut-off valve. If you have a water meter, you can turn the water on slowly and let the tank fill with water. After filling the tank, flush the toilet to check for visible leaks. You can also tighten bolts holding the tank to the bowl.

Disconnect the water supply line from the tank. This is located on the underside of the tank. If the water supply line is damaged, disconnect it first. After that, remove the tank from the bowl. You should also check the tank to bowl gasket and flapper to make sure that they are properly connected. When you are finished, you can replace the tank. Remember to check the flapper, fill valve, and other parts before replacing the tank.

Before removing the toilet tank, drain the water from the bowl. After flushing, hold the handle down for ten seconds. Once the water drains from the toilet, you should wring out the remaining water. Use a bucket or large sponge to soak up the remaining water. If necessary, wear rubber gloves as you wring the bucket. You can also use a Stanley wet/dry vacuum to remove any remaining water.

Remove the flange from the floor

First, remove the old toilet. Make sure the water line is disconnected and the tank is empty. Next, remove any bolts on the base. Remove the flange. Remove any existing wax or adhesive from the flange. You can use a hammer and pry bar to break up the tile around the flange. Repeat the process on each area. Repeat the process as needed to remove all of the wax.

To remove the old flange, first unscrew it from the floor. You may have to use a paint scraper or an old towel to block the drainpipe. Then, remove the wax seal from the old flange. Once the wax seal has been removed, the flange should lift easily off the floor. However, some flanges may require professional help.

If the flange is in good condition, you can easily replace it yourself. To do so, measure the length and width of the old flange and replace it with a new one. Afterward, use an adjustable wrench to loosen the nuts on the new flange. Insert the new flange into the toilet, centering the wax ring on the flange. Once the new flange has been placed in place, reattach the tank. Before flushing the toilet, turn off the water supply to make sure the new flange is installed securely.

After you have removed the old flange, insert the new one in place of it. Next, insert the new flange into the waste pipe and push it down until it rests flush against the floor. You must then screw it into place on the subfloor. You can now use the toilet. Then, you need to make sure the floor is level to ensure that you won’t damage it while installing it.

Install new bolts

If your toilet isn’t level, you’ll need to install new bolts. You may need to level the floor first, but if you’re using cast iron piping, you’ll need to drill straight into the wood floor. Once you’ve leveled the floor, install the new bolts to replace the toilet. Next, make sure the bolts are snugly tightened. You may need to use bathtub caulk or plumber’s putty to make sure that no water will leak out.

If your old toilet isn’t level, you can install new bolts and a new flange. Most hardware stores sell a flange kit for about $6. If the floor is old and you can’t find the bolts, you may need to purchase a new flange. A repair ring can be purchased at any hardware store. You’ll need to install it before you can tighten it, so measure the depth of the floor and use a tape measure to find the right size.

If the nut is rusted, try applying WD-40. You should soak the WD40 in the threads for about 30 minutes. Do not overtighten the bolts, or you risk cracking the toilet. Make sure you read the instructions and follow them properly. You’ll need an adjustable wrench to unscrew the nut. A screwdriver with a flat head will fit over the nut and is also handy.

After you’ve cut the new bolts, install the new flange. Be sure that the threads of the new bolts stick out an inch or two above the nut. Once the new flange is in place, you can replace the old nut. Once that’s done, make sure to put a plastic cap over the bolts. You can buy a toilet nut tool at any hardware store.

Repair loose flanges with ear-type repair kits

Loose flanges in toilets usually have to do with wood rot. If the flange is rotted, the screws used to secure it will not hold because the wood is soft. If the rot is too extensive, you will have to replace the entire subfloor. An ear-type repair kit helps you fix this problem by allowing you to drive screws farther away from the flange. To use an ear-type repair kit, you must make sure that the ring fits over the drain horn on the underside of the toilet.

First, remove the cap from the flange. This covers the bolts and washers. You can remove these caps with a flat head screwdriver or by gently prying upward. Be sure to use a screwdriver that is not too long, as excessive pressure could damage the porcelain. You can also use an adjustable wrench to remove nuts from the bolts at the base of the toilet. A pair of pliers can help you grip the bolt while removing it.

To install a new flange in a toilet with an ear-type repair kit, you must first remove the flange from the toilet. If you have a wooden subfloor, you will need to dig up the hole. Then, you will need to pour concrete into the spacer. Once you’ve placed the new flange in the spacer, you’ll need to cut the pipe to fit inside it. You will also need to attach the new flange to the concrete using an internal pipe cutter.

A new flange requires a wax ring that fits properly. The size of the wax ring depends on the thickness of the floor beneath the toilet. A thicker wax ring will require a thicker wax ring than a thin one. Once you have placed the wax ring, rest the toilet bowl on its side and align the flange. Afterward, replace the nuts and washers with new ones. Finally, replace the bolt caps.
