The Evolution ACS2000 Track Saw was one of the heavy hitters at this year’s Craftsman Tool Institute. It definitely got my attention. I’ve been looking for an excuse to get a track saw, and the ACS2000 seemed like it might be just what I needed. But before making any decisions, I decided to do some research on it…
On the pro side, it has the ability to make miter cuts up to 60 degrees (most saws can’t cut more than 45 degrees), which means that you can rip boards along their edge (a nice way to salvage some good wood). And once mounted in its sled base, you can guide your stock along two channels of the track (one channel on each side of the blade). The saw is powered by a 5 1/2-amp motor and has an electronic blade brake. It comes with a dustbag, hardware for mounting it in the sled base, and a little wrench for adjusting the miter angle.
On the con side, I’m not all that thrilled with its rip fence design (I prefer well-marked flip-up stops), but this might actually be easier to adjust than some of the more typical systems on other track saws. And if you’re cutting wide boards, you’ll need some kind of outfeed support behind your sled base (it lacks this feature).
Pros:
The saw head stays on track !!! This is my biggest beef with many cheap track saws. The blade tilt mechanism is simple enough, but it simply doesn’t hold up as well as this one does IMHO. There are three positive stops – 45 degrees and two bevels – making it quick and easy to return the saw head to a known position. As usual with Kreg, the fence is adjustable (parallel) along the entire length of the track quickly and easily WITHOUT TOOLS.

There is no dust collection port, but I suppose one can utilize a shop vac if desired. My biggest complaint is that the power cord protrudes from the left side of the saw without fail exactly where my support hand needs to slide past it during a cut.
